London

I just got back from the Loaded Dog, a pub on the Leytonstone High Road opp. Homebase.

It was recommended to me by a guy I bumped into networking called John Ellis and as promised they do seem to play a lot of live music which was *exactly* what I was after.

The Weds night thing which we experienced tonight was an open mic jazz session. Luckily the majority of the people who played were good. Even better a few were excellent, there were two: a Sax and Trumpet player that blew everyone else out of the water, IMO.

I thought that Joanne Pooley (who organised it and who also sang) did and excellent job. Imagine 4 drummers, 3 sax players, 3 trumpets, two pianists, and some singers all wanting a pop but (obviously) limited space. She kept it rolling between the artists and whilst she was fair and everyone got a shout, there were definitely some strategic choices of people for certain tracks that needed a stronger talent.

Anyway, It worked well and I’ll certainly be going again.
