Kurt and I attempted so see the entire piece last night at the Barbican. We managed the first half which was 1.5 hours and whilst being in awe of complexity and the sheer effort being used to manually repeat the same chord for 45 minutes without a break by half time we could face no more and left early; I feel less of a philistine to now know that it’s normally played out over 3 days.

I had a great time and also managed to fit in clearing the last things from our house before its sale and seeing Orient nail Port Vale 3:1 at Brisbane Road thanks to Karl. Shame about the Rugby and the F1.

I stumbled upon http://www.ukbassradio.co.uk tonight and it looks pretty good.

I normally use Drum and Bass arena if I want to listen to a stream but that site has two problems:

They’ve obviously gone for Windows at the back-end so I have to use media player, which is not ideal

There is no live stream, one has to select an archived event or mix, although admittedly they do have a lot of them.

ukbassradio.co.uk does have a stream as an m3u (it opens in iTunes) and the quality of the tunes being played is very good (I’ve been listening since 8pm). It also has a forum, one of the topics being people posting mixes.

Anyway, that’s my streaming D’n'B need fulfilled.

My Knowledge Magazine subscription ran out 2 years ago and they didn’t bother to remind me to renew, so I forgot…and now it’s two years later.

Well anyway, I’m (very slowly) ripping off all of my CD’s to MP3 and had another spurt tonight. This combined with the iTunes 5 release means that I’ve been looking at my music in greater detail than normal and I started playing some of the old Knowledge Cd’s. Hence I remembered how cool it was that the postie used to deliver a magazine with a CD on it to me each month with the latest Drum and Bass on it.

Needless to say I’ve just resubscribed. Website could do with some work, though. Query strings everywhere and the home page made me think, which is bad.

I’m sure Knowledge was one of those free magazines that they used to give out as we were leaving Lakota*. Their Wikipedia entry says that they are 10 yrs old, which would match up.

*Cathie and I met here, Aug 1995. Those really were the days.
